M5 Kangaroo / Stuart VI artillery tractor

I photographed this M5 Kangaroo artillery tractor in the Land Warfare Hall at IWM Duxford. The earliest iterations of the Kangaroo were created from M3 Stuart and M5 Stuart light tanks to serve as artillery tractors in North Africa campaign in circumstances where Universal Carriers were unavailable. The Kangaroo development continued with removing the guns from the M7 Priest  to create armored personnel carriers, which later included conversions from M4 Sherman and Churchill tanks. The “M5 Tractor” label for example at Duxford has led to some confusion with the M5 Tractor, which was developed using the tracks and suspension from the Stuart tank.
