I photographed this Beech Tradewind at Oshkosh during a trip for the 2024 EAA AirVenture. In the 1960s, a group of 48 retired C-45 Expeditor aircraft were used for conversion to a nose-wheel tricycle gear, single tail civilian airliner. The stabilizers are actually the original pieces with a cap added where the Expeditor (and all the other variants of the Beechcraft 18 Twin Beech) would normally have the twin tails. In fact, the single tail on the Tradewind is actually a horizontal stabilizer from another plane tipped upright and attached as the vertical tail.
Tradewinds were flown as commercial fleet in Alaska, with as many as 12 people aboard enjoying spectacular views through enlarged windows.
