I photographed these M113 APC (Armored Personnel Carrier) and ACAV (Armored Calvary Fighting Vehicle) examples at the Yanks Air Museum and Dubois. The similar M114 ARV was designed to complement the M113 APC.
The M113 replaced the mechanized infantry’s M59 APC vehicles, and was in turn replaced by the M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle.
The M577 Command Post Carrier is based on the M113 APC
