I photographed these Rocketdyne S-3 rocket engine examples at the Florida Air Museum in Lakeland, Florida, and oddly enough at the Holiday Inn Express in Titusville, Florida. When I walked in and saw it displayed in the lobby, I knew I had selected the right place to stay for the night!
The S-3 was originally used on the Army’s Jupiter rocket and NASA’a Juno II rocket. A version of the engine was also used on the USAF Thor missile. It was later developed into the Rocketdyne H-1 used on the first stage of the Saturn launch vehicle.
