I photographed this sail from the nuclear-powered Sturgeon-class USS Parche (SSN-683) in Bremerton.
The Parche is considered to be “the most highly decorated vessel in U.S. history”, receiving a total of nine Presidential Unit Citations and 10 Navy Unit Commendations. The submarine also received 13 Navy Expeditionary Medals and 13 awards of the Battle Efficiency Award during thirty years of service.
About 2,700 miles across the Pacific, I was able to walk through the interior of the Conning Tower of the WWII-era Baleo-class USS Parche (SS-384).
