I was able to photograph the USS Dolphin submarine during an extremely quick visit to the dock at the Maritime Museum of San Diego — I will do a better job capturing these historic vessels when I get back down there — I promise!
The Dolphin was launched in 1968 and set an operating submarine depth record that still holds today. Her 38-year career was the longest in history for a US Navy submarine. She was the Navy’s last operational conventionally powered submarine.
