Story-Eyerly “Little Gee Bee”

I photographed this Story-Eyerly Little Gee Bee at the NASM Udvar-Hazy

George Bogardus flew this plane from Oregon to Washington DC in 1947 and 1951, playing a critical role in convincing the Civil Aeronautics Administration that amateurs could design and build fully capable safe aircraft, and the CAA allowed inspectors to certify amateur-built aircraft starting in 1952. Paul Poberezny founded the first chapter of the EAA the following year.
