I photographed this scale model of the Pennsylvania (CA-4) displayed at the Naval Aviation Museum at NAS Pensacola.
In 1911, Eugene Ely landed his Model D Curtis biplane aboard the Cruiser that had been modified with a 120-foot temporary wooden landing platform over the stern. He was then able to take off and return to land.
