I photographed these D-Day Beach Hedgehog examples in Normandy France, Brussels, Virginia and Wyoming.
They were developed in Czechoslovakia and used underwater to damage landing craft during the D-Day invasion. The Army salvaged these and actually used them on tanks to cut through the hedgerows as the Allies advance inland.
The M8 Scott Howitzer Motor Carriage at the Normandy museum includes example of how the German Beach Hedgehog Barriers were adapted to be mounted on the front and used to cut hedgerows during the Allied advances in the days after D-Day.
