I photographed these Army Mule exhibits at the Quartermaster Museum and US Army Museum.
At the outbreak of the Civil War, the Quartermaster Corps valued the mule for their stamina, strength and ability to subsist on less food than a horse. A six-mule wagon could move 2,500 ponds of cargo and a carefully loaded pack mule could carry up to 400 pounds. The Mule display at Fort Lee includes Gas Mask equipment for the Mule.
