I photographed these UUM-44 Subroc (SUBmarine-launched anti-submarine ROCket) Anti-Submarine Rocket examples at the Udvar-Hazy and Pearl Harbor
These are designed for sub-to-sub combat, being fired through the normal 21-inch torpedo tubes. A rocket motor ignited under water, propelling the subroc into flight on a predetermined ballistic trajectory before dropping a W55 thermonuclear bomb to destroy enemy submarines.
