I photographed this PGM-11 Redstone Missile examples at the Udvar-Hazy, Oregon and Alabama.
The Redstone was directly developed from the German V-2 Rocket after WWII. I’ve seen it labeled as a both a short range and medium range ballistic missile (SRBM and MRBM).
A modified Mercury-Redstone Missile launched the first American into space, Alan Shephard in 1961.
