I photographed this WWI-vintage M1917 GPF / M3 at the Mississippi Armed Forces Museum at Camp Shelby. Grande Puissance Filloux (GPF) translates to “gun of great power, designed by Filloux”
After WWI, the US continued to develop the M1917 into the M3 as a coastal defense weapon, able to engage surface vessels before invading troops reached land.
