On a beautiful sunny day, Mike Garrett and the CAF crew that tours the B-17G 44-83514 Sentimental Journey invited 447th BG veteran Dick Nelms for a flight, departing from the Museum of Flight where Nelms is a docent, sharing experiences as a pilot at Rattlesden and flying Pandora’s Box. After the flight, Nelms — a spritely 99 years old at the time — signed inside the bomb bay of the Fortress. Six months later Nelms celebrated his 100th birthday at the museum.
