I photographed this GAU-5 rifle at the NMoUSAF. Though the museum placard only mentions that dog security teams used the GAU 5/A as a shortened version of the M16 rifle, apparently the Air Force designed it so it would break down into two pieces, allowing it to be stored in the ejection seat of modern jets.
