I photographed these 1810-vintage 18-pounder muzzle-loader Cannons that arm the Batteries at the Edinburgh Castle.
18-pound Cannons: Argyle Battery
This Battery was named in honor of the Duke of Argyll. Rebuilt in the 1730s, the Argyle Battery’s six guns, plus the adjacent Mill’s Mount Battery, formed the main artillery defense on the north side of the castle. These 18-pounder muzzle-loaders are from the Napoleonic era and were built in 1810. On the top of each barrel is the royal cipher GR3 (for George III).

18-pound Cannons: Forewall Battery
This Battery was rebuilt in 1544 and heightened in 1547. These are also 18-pounder muzzle-loaders from the Napoleonic era and were built in 1810.

This Battery was built on the orders of the Regent Morton after the Lang Siege of 1571-73. These are also 18-pounder muzzle-loaders from the Napoleonic era and were built in 1810.
