I photographed this Fairchild GK-1 Argus at the Tillamook Air Museum. This was the US Navy’s version of the Fairchild Model 24 as it was pressed into service shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. The Army Air Force also operated the Model 24 as the UC-61 Forwarder (or UC-86, depending on the engine) in the Utility Transport role. An example of the Army’s UC-86 is on display at the WAAAM in Hood River, Ore.
