I photographed these replicas of the Sputnik 1 Russian satellite at National Air & Space Museum in Washington DC., and the Evergreen Museum in Oregon. The Sputnik 1 on display at the Museum of Flight shows internal evidence that it was built as more than just a model, rather an actual backup to the Sputnik 1 launched Oct. 4, 1957.
