I photographed the Lady Washington twice during the ship’s 2022 visit to Commencement Bay — once with Mitchell the night of April 8, and then again a week later with McKenzie in the late afternoon.
The ship is a replica of the 18th century original Lady Washington which was the first American-flagged vessel to round Cape Horn and the first recorded vessel to make landfall on the Oregon coast. The modern Lady Washington was built in time for the 1989 Washington State Centennial celebrations.
