I photographed the last flying Boeing Model 247D as it completed its final flight, arriving at the Museum of Flight on April 26, 2016. I had seen the plane before during a vintage air show at the Historic Flight Foundation in 2012.
One of the neat ceremonial traditions is for the pilots to sign inside the wheelwell after a plane makes its final sortie before being retired, so you can see photos of the messages that are now part of Boeing’s preserved history. In the interior shots, note that the wing spars actually run through the passenger compartment and would have been a bit of a hurdle for those flying in the forward seating.
